So, how dangerous is motorcycle riding?
Start talking motorcycles with a non-rider and one of the first things you'll hear is how dangerous motorcycles are.
And they always seem to have a terrible story about a motorcycle accident involving a neighbor/cousin/co-
worker/friend-of-a-friend/etc.  So just how dangerous is motorcycling?
There were 4500 motorcycle fatalities in 2005, and that is way to many.  But there were 4800 pedestrian deaths
( you don't hear gruesome stories about them ) and 39,000 automobile fatalities.
For some real perspective, consider these statistics:  some 90,000 people died from hospital infections, 550,000 died
from cancer and heart disease killed 658,000.
Riding motorcycles involves risk, too many riders are crashing and raising fatality numbers are a real concern.  But
compared to other causes of death in America, motorcycle accidents are near the bottom.  So be safe and enjoy the
 ride!
