Diane F. "Rusty" Harmening of East Moline shows
off the hair she cut off for a good cause.
She is donating her braid to Locks of Love, an
organization that uses donated hair to create wigs
for people with cancer. She is seeking donations of
money to send with the 24-inch braid.
Anyone interested in contributing should send
checks, made out to Locks of Love, to
Ms. Harmening at 637 2nd Ave., East Moline, IL
61244. This will be the third time Ms. Harmening
has donated hair and money to the group. In 2001,
she contributed a 12-inch braid and $1,700. In
 2006, she sent in a 16-inch braid and $300.
Ms. Harmening notes that this is the first time since
she was in fourth grade that she has had her hair
cut above her shoulders. `Many of my friends tell
me that I'll hate short hair, but until I try it, I'll never
 know,' she writes.
