Even the threatening clouds from Hurricane Rita didn't D.A.R.E. rain on this parade.  Whiteside and Clinton
Counties first ever Bi-State Teddy Bear Run started under questionable skies.  Myself, I waited till the last
minute to decide to dodge rain clouds and ride to Morrison, IL.  The started point for the Benefit, Auction
and Ride to raise monies for both countries D.A.R.E. programs.
The Auction items, donated by merchants from both sides of the river, kept the attention of all those present.
Josh Williams walked away with a new leather jacket, and a very nice hand made "T-Shirt" quilt by Pam Pike
 went for $290.
After giving credit to those responsible for putting the event together and thoughts of safety, we were under
way.  A police D.A.R.E. Corvette escort led the 62 registered and might I add adventurous Bikers West on
HWY 30 to HWY 136.  We pasted Barnyard Antiques, a location I made a note to visit some time, and rode
into Fulton, IL.  Crossing the river, I noticed many motorists had pulled over to wave and watch the
procession as we zig-zaged our way through Clinton, IA.  We finished the ride at Clinton Harley-Davidson
with hot dogs and fixins provide by Culvers of Clinton.
I seen several familiar faces and met many new fellow riders from the area on this run.  Most of them had
second thoughts as I had of attending due to the weather.  But as things turned out I'm glad I took the chance
and to have been a part of the first Annual Bi-State Teddy Bear Run.
Thanks to all who attended and to all who gave their time and energy for this worthy cause.
